Writing Challenge: Look Who Came to Dinner

Picture it (to quote a wise old woman), Boston, 2011. One tall, lanky, dark haired brunette sits down at a table occupied by one stunningly dressed woman with a beaming smile. They begin to talk about something very important regarding a person that is close to them both, voices barely above a whisper, faces full of an intensity that very people these days know.

Suddenly, the person in question shows up asking all kinds of question, not the least of which is what the two women are talking about. Neither woman wants to say, but the person keeps pushing, and, given the fact that the stunningly dressed woman can't lie, things get a little hairy.

The moral of the story?

Never talk about someone somewhere that they can walk in on you!

The challenge is to write this story. It doesn't have to be Rizzles. Jane and Maura could just be friends. The length should be somewhere between 1,500 and 3,000 words. You must post the story somewhere that everyone may read it. Many of us use fanfiction.net or livejournal, but, of course, there are hundreds of places you may choose to post. But, no one should have to create a login in order to read your story. Post a link to the story here in the comments section of this post.

Please post any questions you have in the comments section here as well.

You have until March 29, 2011 to post.

Good luck and have fun!

  2. TtownAmstaff asks: @RizzlesGirls Question of clarification, does the prompt necessarily go with the picture or can we devise our own dinner scenario?

ANSWER: It does not. We just like pictures. ^_^ You may use whichever character you'd like. That includes ones that have yet to be seen on screen like Tommy or Maura's parents.

  3. Does it have to be a canon character from the show, or could it be a crossover? Like someone from another crime show who's helping them with a case or something.

  4. Good question! If it's believable (like Olivia Benson shows up) in the R&I universe, then go for it. If you're having to stretch it (like Xena shows up), then no.

  5. Okay, I am slightly intimidated by being the first person to post, but here goes: http://that-1-incident.livejournal.com/57189.html

  6. The Boston Cream Episode (PG) by cleo2584 and future_imp47

(Link is to LJ, but if you look at Ao3, it counts the fic at 1481 words. It's actually 1502. The archive historically counts a little low; this was a big problem during Yuletide last year.)

  7. I'm going to try to corral everyone. I'm afraid me disappearing for almost a week kind of killed the hype here. Very sorry for that, ladies, but we still want you submissions!
